March Madness is a big deal in the U.S., so Spanish teachers have been using that energy to drum up interest in authentic Spanish music with locura de marzo (March Madness).
Students in Ms. Reichert’s and Ms. Hovley’s Spanish classes at Richland High were among the 1,900 students worldwide who participated this year. Locura began with 16 songs in Spanish that were listened to in class. Students then filled out brackets choosing which songs they thought would advance or win.
Each week, Spanish classes around the world listened to two songs and voted on their favorite, with the winning song advancing and the losing song being eliminated. In the end there were 28 students with perfect brackets, two of which were from RHS. Congratulations to Sydney Olson and Tyler Hunt for making perfect predictions!
Locura is a great way to introduce students to new types of music and create excitement for language learning. Learn more and listen to the songs at www.senorashby.com/locura-de-marzo-2023.
