Chamber Choir

Chamber Choir is an auditioned, mixed ensemble for more advanced singers. It is a performance-intensive ensemble, with members expected to master a large amount of repertoire in a shorter period of time. Chamber Choir takes part in large-group contests, solo/ensemble, festivals and public performances. It requires DEDICATION, and it takes LOVE FOR THE ARTS to be apart of Richland High School's Chamber Choir.

JAZZ Reaction

This is a select mixed ensemble of 16 to 20 singers, rhythm section, and sound technicians specializing in the performance of vocal jazz literature as well as other styles of music as necessary. Jazz choir will travel to Jazz festivals and competitions throughout the year as well as participate in concerts and local performances.

SOLO OPPORTUNITIES: In Jazz Choir, you not only sing in the ensemble, but you learn about how to create a jazz solo, including correct  vocal improvisation.

 

REHEARSAL TIME: Even though class is very early in the morning every person in Jazz Choir figures out how to make the best of the time they get to be ready for the next performance

Treble Choir

Treble Choir is an auditioned, non-mixed women's ensemble specializing in choral literature for soprano and alto voices. They will participate in each quarter's concert, large group contests, solo/ensemble and other festivals.

Concert Choir

Concert Choir is a non-auditioned ensemble open to any Richland High School Student. No previous singing experience is required. A desire to grow and excel musically is expected. Concert Choir participates in each quarter's concert and large group choral festival as well as other performance opportunities.

RHS Choral Director, Greg Fryhling

Greg Fryhling has been the Choral Director at Richland High School since the 2004 to 2005 school year. He graduated from Pacific Lutheran University cum laude with a Degree in K-12 Choral Music Education and earned his Master of Music  Degree in Conducting from Central Washington University.

Under Mr.Fryhling's direction, the Richland High choirs have earned many superior and excellent ratings at festivals and choral contests, and have been selected to perform in the Showcase Concerts at both the Columbia Basin College and  Washington State University Choral Festivals. In addition to local festivals, Richland High Choirs have traveled to festivals located in Anaheim, CA, Carnegie Hall in New York City, Emerald City Sings in Seattle, Best in the Northwest in Portland, OR and Silverwood in northern Idaho.

Numerous RHS Choir students have received individual recognition, earning "Outstanding Soloist" Awards at various choral and Jazz Festivals. Many students have been selected to perform in All-State, and All-Northwest Honor Choirs. RHS has also sent many students to compete in the State Solo and Ensemble festival.

Greg Fryhling has composed many pieces throughout his years at Richland and always tries to find new music to challenge and broaden his students music appreciation and education. He wants to bring his students to the forefront of what is new and exciting in the world of choral music in the Tri-Cities. 

Courses he has taught are, Chamber Choir, Jazz Choir, Treble Choir, Concert Choir, Guitar Class, and Musical Theatre. He has also been the Vocal Director for all of Richland High Schools musicals since 2005. The list of shows includes:
